Therapy Modalities
At Houston Anxiety and Wellness Center, we don't believe in one-size-fits-all treatment. As experts in multiple evidence-based therapy modalities, we customize your approach based on what works best for you. Explore and learn about what we offer below.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a powerful, evidence-based approach built on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all interconnected. By identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors, you can significantly reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression and improve overall well-being.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT helps you accept difficult emotions and negative thoughts rather than avoiding them, so you can live according to your values, not your fears. Through mindfulness and acceptance techniques, you'll learn to sit with anxiety and make productive choices toward the life you want.
Exposure and Response Therapy (ERP)
ERP is about gradually getting comfortable with your fears or OCD triggers. By facing your fears head-on and resisting the urge to engage in compulsive or safety behaviors, you learn that your anxiety will naturally decrease, even without performing rituals or avoidance behaviors.
Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions Therapy (SPACE)
SPACE Therapy (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) empowers you as a parent to help your child manage anxiety more effectively by changing your behavior. It can break the cycle of anxiety without requiring the child's direct participation in therapy, making it an effective alternative or complement to traditional child therapy.
Comprehensive Behaviorial Treatment (ComB model)
The ComB model is a specialized treatment for body-focused repetitive behaviors like hair pulling and skin picking. It addresses the sensory, cognitive, emotional, and environmental factors that trigger these behaviors, helping you understand your specific triggers and develop personalized strategies to regain control.
Habit Reversal Training (HRT)
Habit Reversal Training is a well-established, evidence-based behavioral treatment for body-focused repetitive behaviors. HRT helps you develop awareness of your habits and teaches you to practice competing responses - alternative movements or actions that directly oppose the problem behavior - whenever the urge arises. By replacing harmful habits with healthier alternatives, you can regain control and break the cycle.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is an evidence-based program that teaches you to stay present and manage stress through mindfulness meditation and awareness practices. Rather than trying to eliminate stress, MBSR helps you change your relationship with it by observing your thoughts and feelings without judgment. With regular practice, you'll develop greater emotional resilience, reduce anxiety, and find calm even during difficult moments.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy is an evidence-based treatment that strengthens the parent-child relationship while addressing behavioral challenges. Your therapist coaches you in real-time as you interact with your child, teaching you practical strategies to improve communication, set healthy boundaries, and help your child feel secure and understood. By changing how you respond to your child's behavior, you create positive patterns that lead to lasting improvement.
Parent Management Training (PMT)
Parent Management Training teaches parents practical strategies to manage challenging behaviors and reduce oppositional or defiant patterns in children. Your therapist helps you understand what drives your child's behavior, then equips you with specific techniques to set clear boundaries, respond consistently, and reinforce positive behaviors. By learning to manage your child's behavior more effectively, you gain confidence and create a calmer, more connected family environment.
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative approach that helps you find your own motivation to make positive changes. Rather than being told what to do, your therapist helps you explore your ambivalence, clarify your values, and discover your own reasons for change. By working together to resolve internal conflict, you'll feel more empowered and committed to the goals that matter most to you.
Social Skills Training (SST)
Social Skills Training teaches you practical strategies to navigate social situations with greater confidence and ease. Whether you struggle with conversation, making friends, or reading social cues, your therapist helps you learn and practice specific skills in a safe environment. With guidance and repetition, you'll develop the tools to connect with others authentically and build meaningful relationships.
Executive Functioning Coaching
Executive Functioning Coaching helps you develop and strengthen the skills that manage organization, planning, time management, and decision-making. Your coach works with you to identify your specific challenges, then teaches practical strategies to help you stay organized, prioritize tasks, and follow through on goals. With support and practice, you'll gain confidence and independence in managing daily life.
